Born in Chicago, now living in Sydney. Miles Merrill is the driving force behind spoken-word and performance poetry in Australia.
He performed with Saul Williams, jammed with Shane Koyczan, hosted an ABC TV Special - Australian Poetry Slam 08', wrote and directed a show in Sydney Festival, performed a solo show at Sydney Opera House and created the spoken-word festivals – Night Words and Story-Fest. Merrill is founder of the national performing writers' program: Australian Poetry Slam
Internationally, Merrill has performed in such places as Krakow’s Audio Art Festival, at writer’s festivals in Ubud, Vancouver, Calgary, Beijing and regional China and at Australian festivals in: Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Darwin and Adelaide.
He tours to: music festivals, theatres, galleries, schools and classy joints everywhere - anywhere his words will travel.
Merrill is as much a facilitator and organiser of events and workshops as he is an outstanding writer and performer. He is the Creative Director of the literary arts organisation, Word Travels and has created literary and literacy programs for a variety of public and private organisations.

Reviewers have offered the following comments on Merrill’s work:
“Lots of performers claim to be multicultural but few straddle as many different cultures as gracefully and powerfully as Miles Merrill… hip and hilarious…wild, witty wordplay reminiscent of Gil-Scott Heron, Lenny Bruce, Ken Nordine, Ginsberg and a tincture of WoodyAllen.” Chicago Reader
“Miles Merrill is the tour-guide of the human spirit…a remarkably adroit poet.”
DB Magazine
“Merrill’s stories, set to a background of music, pack a solid punch. Visit this show to learn what performing is really about.” Adelaide Advertiser
“Passionate, deeply enjoyable and demands attention. More please.”
Sydney Morning Herald
“He was on fire! Each piece was a wild, tongue twisting, spit-laden adventure.”
